Located on the Columbia River the Ragsdale Residence and gardens have a distinct feel evocative of Australia.

The approach drive winds through the grid of an old holly orchard before opening to a view of the river, gardens and an old barn. The barn, salvaged from the property, has been restored and relocated to serve as both garage and portico to the house.

There is a loose formality about the property and buildings. The main house borrows from the Australian tradition of simple corrugated metal roof forms and broad eaves. Passing through the barn portico, steps lead down through a small garden and to the front entry.

The living spaces open onto south facing porches. The main garden falls away in layers of tall grasses and views of the Columbia River and the Portland skyline in the distance.
